What is Panchakarma?

Panchakarma is a core detoxification and rejuvenation therapy in Ayurveda, designed to cleanse the body, eliminate toxins, and restore balance to the doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha). The term "Panchakarma" translates to "five actions" or "five treatments," referring to the five primary procedures used to purify the body.

What is the purpose of Panchakarma?

Panchakarma aims to remove accumulated toxins (ama) from the body, improve digestion, enhance immunity, and promote overall well-being. It is both a curative and preventive therapy.

Abhyanga

Abhyanga is a traditional Ayurvedic self-massage technique involving the application of warm herbal oils tailored to an individual's body type (dosha). It is performed in a rhythmic manner, promoting physical and mental well-being.
Abhyanga is typically done daily (especially in the morning) before a bath or shower. Oils like sesame, coconut, or medicated oils are chosen based on seasonal or individual needs. It is both a therapeutic and preventive practice for holistic health.

Swedana

Swedana is an Ayurvedic therapeutic procedure involving the application of heat to induce sweating. It is typically performed after Abhyanga (oil massage) to enhance its benefits. The term Swedana is derived from the Sanskrit word Sweda, meaning sweat.
Swedana is an integral part of Panchakarma therapy, used to prepare the body for deeper detoxification (Shodhana) by loosening toxins and balancing doshas.

Patra Swedana (पात्र स्वेदन) is a form of localized sudation therapy (swedana) in Ayurveda. It involves applying heat to specific parts of the body using a bolus made of salt or sand or cooked rice or medicinal leaves and powdered herbs. This therapy is widely used for musculoskeletal and neuromuscular disorders and is part of the Panchakarma treatment modalities.

Sarvanga Dhara

Sarvanga Dhara is an Ayurvedic therapeutic procedure where medicated liquids are poured in a continuous stream over the entire body. The term "Sarvanga" means "entire body," and "Dhara" refers to the act of pouring or streaming. This therapy is deeply rejuvenating and often prescribed for conditions related to stress, joint pain, and systemic imbalances.

In Ayurveda Basti therapy (Local) ,a dough ring structure is placed on the neck area/ back area/ heart area/ knee area/ nabhi area and warm medicated oil (e.g., Sahacharadi tailam, Balaaswagandha taila, Ksheerabala Taila, Mahanarayana Taila etc.) is poured and retained for 20–30 minutes.a localized reservoir using dough and medicated oils to treat specific areas of the body. It is a highly effective procedure for targeting pain, stiffness, and imbalances in localized regions.
